Why Caregiver Support Matters: A Mother's Story of Connection and Confidence

11/1/2023

Caregiver Empowerment & Emotional Support A mother of a child with special needs reported experiencing isolation and emotional burnout. After participating in structured caregiver support sessions organised by the Initiative, she gained practical coping strategies, connected with other parents facing similar challenges, and developed stronger advocacy skills for her child. Families caring for children with special needs often experience emotional stress, financial strain, social isolation, and burnout. We recognise that supporting the child also means strengthening the family unit — which is why caregiver empowerment sits at the heart of our Caregiver Empowerment & Family Strengthening programme. Through structured caregiver training, emotional support groups, and peer-learning platforms, we help parents and caregivers become informed advocates and confident support systems for their children. To date, we've empowered 210+ parents and caregivers through this work. If you're a parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, our support sessions are open to you, free of charge. Reach out through our Contact page to learn when the next session is happening near you.
